Shampooed the Carpets

I shampooed the carpets and floor mats on Sunday so I don’t have to worry about oil saturated carpets any more. I gave the carpets an initial cleaning when I first picked up the car but they still had quite a bit of oil in them.  We rented a carpet cleaner from Home Depot  to clean the house so after I was done with that I did the carpets in the car.  I removed the driver’s seat so I could clean under it.  They came out really well and it took about an hour or so to do.  The carpet in the floor of the driver’s side has faded some due to the oil.  The floor mats have sun faded to green.
I also picked up RIT dark brown dye to redye the carpets and floor mats. I plan to start with the floor mats and see how they come out.
Also the parts will be here today.

Speedometer Cable

I took a trip to Denver yesterday and on the way back lost the speedometer cable. I knew it was something I’d have to change at some point because the threads where it screws into the transmission were slightly stripped.  I was able to replace it with a good cable that I had in the garage today.  I lubricated the cable with graphite lube before I installed it.

Transmission Mount

Today I swapped out the transmission mount and drive shaft.  I pulled both of these from my other car.  The transmission mount is under 2 years old and the drive shaft has replacement u-joints.  Replacing the drive shaft is a fairly easy project.  I removed the 4 bolts at the rear end and slid the drive shaft out of the transmission.  I forgot to put a pan under the tail shaft and made a mess all over the driveway.  To replace the transmission mount, I started by putting a jack under the transmission and raising it just slightly.  I removed the catalytic converter mount and than removed the transmission crossmember. After that, I just needed to remove the old mount and bolt everything back together.

I took the car for a drive after I replaced the tranny mount and I still have a little movement of the shifter from side to side, I’m thinking I must have a cracked motor mount. Next on my list of parts to buy is new motor mounts. I’m also going to see about getting the interior parts I’ve been meaning to at the same time.
